He had 700 wives of royal birth and 300 concubines. And in fact, they did turn his heart away from the LORD. In Solomon’s old age, they turned his heart to worship other gods instead of being completely faithful to the LORD his God, as his father, David, had been. —1 Kings 11:3-4 (NLT)

King Solomon loved many foreign women from the nations which the LORD had clearly instructed the people of Israel not to associate with them. He held fast to them in love. (See 1 Kings 11:1-2) Let us be very careful to whom or on what we set our affections. Never let the things of this world turn your heart away from Almighty God. May we remain completely faithful and loyal to Yahweh, all of our days, and worship Him alone. Stay true to the Most High God. For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His. (2 Chronicles 16:9a NASB1995)
