“Who do you say that I am?”
First, Jesus asked His disciples: “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” (See Matthew 16:13) Then He asked them specifically, “…who do you say that I am?” What is more important for each one of us, is Who we say and believe Jesus is. As John the Baptist sat in prison, he sent two of his disciples to Jesus, saying, “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?” (See Matthew 11:2-3) There is no other. In John 14:6 Jesus said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
He is the chief Corner Stone of the foundation, in whom believers are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. (See Ephesians 2:21-22) Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, “Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious, and he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.” (1 Peter 2:6 NKJV) And when anyone sins, Jesus Christ the righteous is our Advocate with the Father. (See 1 John 2:1) Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (See Hebrews 12:2)
Whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. (See John 3:15) And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. (John 17:3 NKJV) Have no doubt, and do not wonder. Be like Job, and know that our Redeemer lives! (See Job 19:25) He is everything we need Him to be and more. Amen.
