Relief

When the LORD saw their change of heart, he gave this message to Shemaiah: “Since the people have humbled themselves, I will not completely destroy them and will soon give them some relief…”2 Chronicles 12:7 (NLT)

In 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NLT), the LORD says, “…if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.” Relief for the people and restoration of the land comes when the people of God humble themselves and seek His face. Pride causes people to manipulate situations and try to force their own way, but the humble seek God’s will. They are led by the Spirit of God and do things His way, which always lines up with His Word.

“I warned the proud, ‘Stop your boasting!’ I told the wicked, ‘Don’t raise your fists! Don’t raise your fists in defiance at the heavens or speak with such arrogance.’” For no one on earth—from east or west, or even from the wilderness— should raise a defiant fist. It is God alone who judges; he decides who will rise and who will fall.” (Psalm 75:4-7 NLT) God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble. (See James 4:6 NASB1995) Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, (1 Peter 5:6 NKJV).
