Why?

Sir,” Gideon replied, “if the LORD is with us, why has all this happened to us? And where are all the miracles our ancestors told us about? Didn’t they say, ‘The LORD brought us up out of Egypt’? But now the LORD has abandoned us and handed us over to the Midianites.” —Judges 6:13 (NLT)

Like Gideon, we may sometimes wonder, “if the LORD is with us, why has all this happened to us?” However, 1 Peter 4:12 (NASB1995) says: Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; Psalm 37:1-2 (NLT) says: Don’t worry about the wicked or envy those who do wrong. For like grass, they soon fade away. Like spring flowers, they soon wither. Regardless of what has happened or not happened, be assured that the LORD is with you. He will never abandon you, nor forsake you.

But what does the LORD require of you? Micah 6:8 (NLT) says: “O people, the LORD has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” As long as we abide in the LORD (The Who),  what we go through and why are not our main concern. Trust in the LORD and do good; Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. (Psalm 37:3 NASB 1995) Set the LORD continually before you; Because He is at your right hand, you shall not be shaken. (See Psalm 16:8 AMP)
