The Battle Belongs to the LORD
Then Goliath, a Philistine champion from Gath, came out of the Philistine ranks to face the forces of Israel. He was over nine feet tall! Goliath stood and shouted a taunt across to the Israelites. “Why are you all coming out to fight?” he called. “I am the Philistine champion, but you are only the servants of Saul. Choose one man to come down here and fight me! —1 Samuel 17:4, 8 (NLT)
When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid. (1 Samuel 17:11 NASB1995) However, when David heard the taunt of Goliath, he volunteered to go and fight the Philistine (See 1 Samuel 17:32) David had confidence that the LORD who delivered him from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, would also deliver him from the hand of the Philistine.
Don’t be like the Israelites and cower in discouragement and fear, when the enemy taunts you with his lies. Instead, be like David, and face your enemy in the name of the LORD of hosts (See 1 Samuel 17:45). No matter how big the enemy appears, our mighty God is bigger, greater and more powerful. Have no doubt that Yahweh is faithful to deliver us from all our troubles. (See Psalm 34:17) Remember that the battle is the LORD’s. (See 1 Samuel 17:47)
