However, if no one is there to encourage you, be like David. When David and his men returned home from battle they found the city burned with fire, and their wives, their sons, and their daughters had been taken captive. Jesus was going through all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness. Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd. — Matthew 9:35-36 (NASB) Jesus sees you today. And He is still moved with compassion for people. No need to be distressed or discouraged. Whatever troubles you, is in this world, and Jesus has overcome the world. (John 16:33) He is your stability in the storm. Jesus is the answer to any question and the solution to every problem. If you are sick, He is the physician. For those who are lost, Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6a). He is the Good Shepherd. Follow Him. He is able and willing to take care of all that concerns you.

Therefore my spirit is overwhelmed within me; My heart within me is distressed. I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Your works; I muse on the work of Your hands. — Psalm 143:4-5 (NKJV) When life is overwhelming and you are losing all hope, ponder all His great works and think about the awesome things the LORD has done. When you are paralyzed with fear, meditate on His unfailing love. His perfect love drives out all fear (1 John 4:18). When you are in despair and your heart is heavy, stretch out your hands to our heavenly Father. Morning, noon, and night cry out to the LORD and He will hear your voice. (Psalm 55:17 NLT) I remembered the old days, went over all you’ve done, pondered the ways you’ve worked, stretched out my hands to you, as thirsty for you as a desert thirsty for rain. (Psalm 143:5-6 MSG)

When the enemy invades your life and everything seems lost, find strength in the Lord of lords and the King of kings. ‘Do not fear [anything], for I am with you; Do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, be assured I will help you; I will certainly take hold of you with My righteous right hand [a hand of justice, of power, of victory, of salvation].’ — Isaiah 41:10 (AMP) No need to be distressed or discouraged. Strength and help are available. Our mighty God will give you the strength to overcome difficulties and triumph over trials and tribulations. King Jesus is the source of our strength and He has an endless supply. There is nothing to difficult for Him. Call upon His name and you can be assured you will receive help in your time of need.

Be encouraged in His Word, which stands forever, through all kinds of weather! After David inquired of the LORD, he pursued his enemies and recovered everything the Amalekites had taken, including his two wives. (1 Samuel 30:8, 18). When we follow God’s direction, we too can overcome our enemies and recover all that the enemy has taken. And loved ones held captive by the enemy will be set free.

Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, “Peace be with you.” — John 20:19 (NKJV) Do we let fear keep us shut up and locked in? When fear and insecurity tries to stop you from accomplishing your mission and fulfilling your purpose, open the door of your mind and let Jesus come in. He speaks peace to you. When He speaks, the winds of adversity cease. Let your mind be still from all the “what if…” scenarios, that make you anxious and distressed. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7). There is no fear in the unfailing love God has for us. His perfect love casts out all fear.

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.” — John 14:1 (NLT) In John 14:27 (NKJV), Jesus gives us another reminder: “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” If Jesus, the Prince of Peace, is our Lord, why do we get so upset and distressed when troubles come our way? Jesus said He gave us His peace. Do we believe the world more than we believe the Word of God? While the disciples thought they were perishing, Jesus was able to sleep in the midst of the storm because He trusted in our heavenly Father. (Mark 4:37-38). “Do not let your heart be troubled (afraid, cowardly). Believe [confidently] in God and trust in Him, [have faith, hold on to it, rely on it, keep going and] believe also in Me. (John 14:1 AMP) [Let My perfect peace calm you in every circumstance and give you courage and strength for every challenge.] (John 14:27 AMP excerpt)

I love the LORD, because He has heard my voice and my supplications. Because He has inclined His ear to me, therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live. — Psalm 116:1-2 (NKJV) The Psalmist said, “I found trouble and sorrow. Then I called upon the name of the LORD” (Psalm 116:3-4). When you are distressed or sorrowful, call upon the LORD. He will answer you and set you in a broad, spacious place. The LORD is on your side; do not fear. What can man do to you? (Psalm 118:5-6) It is better to trust and take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in man (Psalm 118:8 AMP). Call upon Him as long as you live. He hears your voice.

And he said, “I have been very zealous for the LORD God of hosts; because the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left; and they seek to take my life.” — 1 Kings 19:14 (NKJV) When you're on fire for God and doing all that He calls you to, the enemy will take notice. After the prophet Elijah had a great victory, Jezebel threatened to take his life. He hides in the wilderness, where he prayed that he might die (1 Kings 19:4). Elijah was in such a distressed state that he believed he was the only one left serving God. In reality God had reserved 7,000 loyal servants, in Israel (1 Kings 19:18). Don’t let the enemy give you the wrong perspective. You are never alone. Our awesome God is our constant companion and mighty King.

Then David and his men pursued their enemies and overtook them. They recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away, and nothing of theirs was lacking, (1 Samuel 30:18,19). There may be situations that cause you to be distressed and weep, but find strength and encourage yourself in the Lord. Don't let the enemy steal anything from you. Recover all!

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.” — John 14:1 (NKJV) Do not let your hearts be troubled, distressed or full of anxiety. In order to be kept in perfect peace we must believe in God and His Son, Jesus Christ. Completely trust in and rely on our heavenly Father and our Savior. Our God is mighty and powerful and above all. He is above all of your circumstances. Everything we go through in this life has come to pass, but our God stands forever. He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:57). And this is the victory that overcomes the world —our faith, our strong, immovable and fixed belief in God, the Father and the Son (1 John 5:4). Amen!

But David found strength in the LORD and recovered everyone and everything his enemies had taken (1 Samuel 30:19). In times of great distress, when life is bitter, we must find strength in the LORD our God. He will give us the power, by His Spirit, to recover all.

He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death," he said to them. "Stay here and keep watch." Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him. "Abba Father," he said, "everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will." Mark 14:33-36 (NIV) When you are deeply distressed and troubled, when you are so overwhelmed you could just lay down and die, follow the example of Jesus and go to our heavenly Father in prayer.
