Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour. — 1 Peter 5:8 (AMP) Be alert at all times. In Revelation 12:17, the devil declared war with those who keep the commandments of God and hold fast to the testimony of Jesus. Our enemy does not take breaks and he doesn't go on vacation. He continually prowls around, seeking someone to devour. Take a decisive stand against him and resist his every attack with strong, vigorous faith. For you know that your believing brothers and sisters around the world are experiencing the same kinds of troubles you endure. (1 Peter 5:9 TPT)

And the LORD said to Satan, “From where do you come?” So Satan answered the LORD and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.” — Job 1:7 (NKJV) Why does the devil go to and fro on the earth? First Peter 5:8b tells us, he prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy (John 10:10a). Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you (1 Peter 4:12 NLT). As 1 Peter 5:8a instructs,  be on the alert. Be cautious at all times. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. — Ephesians 6:11 (NASB)

Satan is always looking for an opportune time to steal, to kill, and to destroy. He sends his fiery darts to cause division, offense, bitterness, hatred, etc. so he can steal your peace and joy, and eventually kill your love. Since God is love, destruction is inevitable without the love of God in our hearts. But we can resist him, firm in our faith, and like Jesus, we can use God’s Word as our weapon of choice, by speaking what is written in it, over every situation.
