Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. — 1 Peter 5:8 (NASB1995) Our enemy has waged war on all who obey the commandments of God and maintain their testimony for Jesus. (See Revelation 12:17) We need to be alert and cautious at all times. The Message Bible says: The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. (1 Peter 5:8)  Be strong in the Lord. Draw your strength from Him and be empowered through your union with Him. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. (See Ephesians 6:10-12)

First Peter 5:8 (NLT) warns us to “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” But take heart, because Jesus has already overcome the enemy. We defeat him by the blood of the Lamb and by our testimony (Revelation 12:11a NLT). Let us continually speak God’s Word over our lives. Greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world.
