Be Awestruck!

Then the sailors picked Jonah up and threw him into the raging sea, and the storm stopped at once! The sailors were awestruck by the LORD’s great power, and they offered him a sacrifice and vowed to serve him.
Jonah 1:14-16 (NLT)

In Jonah 1:1-3, God told Jonah to go to the city of Nineveh and proclaim His message, but Jonah went in the opposite direction hoping to get away from the LORD. Then the LORD sent a storm.  In Jonah 1:14 (NLT), the sailors threw Jonah overboard, in order to calm the storm. They cried out to the LORD, “O LORD,” they pleaded, “don’t make us die for this man’s sin. And don’t hold us responsible for his death. O LORD, you have sent this storm upon him for your own good reasons.”

God has good reasons for allowing the storms that come into our lives. In Jonah’s case his obedience meant that a city of more than 120,000 people turned from their wicked ways and were saved. When the storms come, don’t lose hope, know that God has already prepared a way out. Instead, be awestruck (filled with wonder) by the LORD’s great power and continue to serve Him. Just as God heard Jonah’s cry for help from the belly of a great fish (Jonah 2:1-2), He will hear your voice when you call upon Him. And He will deliver you from all your troubles.
