Cease Striving
“Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” —Psalm 46:10 (NASB1995)
The enemy would have us live complicated and cluttered lives, with so many distractions. If we lose focus on the main thing, these distractions can draw us away from the Presence of our Heavenly Father. Then we are likely to take detours off of the path God has for us, and be led down dead-end roads with dangerous curves, deep ditches and dark pits.
Let us cease striving, stop trying to “get” and commune with our Heavenly Father. When we open our hearts and minds to Him, we are able to “receive” all that He has for us each day. As we focus on Him, we can look beyond the clutter of this world, and recognize His good work in our lives. When our ears are tuned in to His voice, we can hear His still small voice leading us and guiding us along the path that leads to life. As we are still in His Presence, we become more intimately acquainted with Him and His ways. We understand that He is bigger and higher than any mountain that stands in our way. In the Message Bible He says: “Step out of the traffic! Take a long, loving look at me, your High God, above politics, above everything.” (Psalm 46:10)
The LORD of Heaven’s Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress. Interlude —Psalm 46:11 (NLT)
