Do As He Says

When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch.” Simon answered and said, “Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing, but I will do as You say and let down the nets.” —Luke 5:4-5 (NASB1995)

When we attempt to take on a task in our own human effort and we often produce nothing, and sometimes we make a bigger mess of things. However, when our Master instructs us to do something, let us make sure we do it, even if we have already tried to do it in the past. Because Simon obeyed Jesus and let down his nets, even though they had worked all night, they caught so many fish that their nets began to break. (See Luke 5:6) When we humble ourselves and obey the Lord, many blessings are sure to follow. It is not by mere human might, nor by power, but by His Spirit that we are able to accomplish anything of lasting value. In John 15:5, Jesus said: “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.”
