Fear God

Then the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiphrah and the other was named Puah; and he said, “When you are helping the Hebrew women to give birth and see them upon the birthstool, if it is a son, then you shall put him to death; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live.” But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt had commanded them, but let the boys live. Exodus 1:15-17 (NASB1995)

Let the actions of Shiphrah and Puah serve as a reminder that we need to obey Yahweh, rather than man. God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be held in reverence by all those around Him. (Psalm 89:7 NKJV) The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD shall be safe. (Proverbs 29:25 NKJV) Exodus 1:20-21 says, God was good to the midwives, and the people multiplied, and became very mighty. Because the midwives feared God, He established households for them. Behold, for so shall the man be blessed and divinely favored who fears the LORD [and worships Him with obedience]. (Psalm 128:4 AMP) Because of the midwives obedience, Moses lived and was able to deliver the Israelites from slavery.

In Luke 12:4-5 (NKJV) Jesus said: “And I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him!”
