The Dreamer
One night Joseph had a dream, and when he told his brothers about it, they hated him more than ever. —Genesis 37:5 (NLT)
In Genesis 37:14, Joseph's father sent him to see about the welfare of his brothers and the flock. When Joseph’s brothers saw him coming, they recognized him in the distance. As he approached, they made plans to kill him. “Here comes the dreamer!” they said. “Come on, let’s kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns. We can tell our father, ‘A wild animal has eaten him.’ Then we’ll see what becomes of his dreams!” (Genesis 37:18-20 NLT) Our enemy would like to crush our dreams and destroy our hope. Hold on to the dreams God has placed in your heart, no matter what happens.
Joseph’s brother’s ended up selling him to Midianite traders for twenty pieces of silver. (See Genesis 37:28) In Genesis 50:20, Joseph tells his brothers: “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive.” The enemy may set his traps for you, and the conditions may not always be optimal, but when all is said and done, the LORD’s purpose will prevail. (See Proverbs 19:21 NLT) Amen.
