Live in Peace

And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.Colossians 3:15 (NLT)

We are called to live in peace. It is supposed to rule in our hearts, not fear, not anxiety, nor worry, but peace. We are not to only experience moments of peace, when it seems everything has come into perfect alignment. Our peace is to be consistent and continual, regardless of external circumstances. The Amplified Bible describes it as the inner calm of one who walks daily with Christ. (See Colossians 3:15 AMP) We can only have this perfect peace when we rely fully on God and trust Him, that no matter what is going on in our lives, and in this world, He is working everything together for good. If our peace is based on the constantly changing conditions of this world, it will never be stable. Our peace has to come from within us where the Holy Spirit of God dwells. He produces the fruit of peace in our lives. (See Galatians 5:22)

As members of one body, children of God are called to dwell together in peace with one another, not in jealousy, envy, or strife. If you find this to be a difficult task, let us go back to Colossians 3:14 (NLT) which says: “Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.” When engaged in difficult interactions with others remember to put on love. Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. (Romans 12:18 NLT) Never pay back evil with more evil. And never take revenge. (See Romans 17 & 19)
