Yahweh-Nissi, Our Banner
Moses built an altar there and named it Yahweh-Nissi (which means “the LORD is my banner”). —Exodus 17:15 (NLT)
In Exodus 17:9-13, Moses stood at the top of the hill holding up the staff in his hands, while Joshua fought the army of Amalek. As long as Moses held up the staff in his hand, the Israelites had the advantage. Eventually, Aaron and Hur stood on each side of Moses and held his hands steady until sunset. As a result, Joshua overwhelmed the army of Amalek in battle.
Yahweh-Nissi is our banner of victory. He delivers and He saves. May we yield our hearts and lift our hands up to Him. With the full armor of God on, we are able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. (See Ephesians 6:10-11) Yahweh always leads us in triumph in Christ. (See 2 Corinthians 2:14) God gives us victory against the flesh, the world, the devil and death. As Yeshua said in John 19:30, “It is finished!”
O clap your hands, all you people; Shout to God with the voice of triumph and songs of joy. For the LORD Most High is to be feared [and worshiped with awe-inspired reverence and obedience]; He is a great King over all the earth. —Psalms 47:1-2 (AMP)
