The Expected One
So the men came to Jesus and said, “John the Baptist sent us to You to ask, ‘Are You the Expected One (the Messiah), or should we look for someone else?’” —Luke 7:20 (AMP)
John the Baptist was the voice of one crying in the wilderness: “Prepare the way of the LORD…” (See Matthew 3:1-3) In Matthew 3:13-14, Jesus came to John to be baptized by him and John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?” However, as John sat in prison, he sent men to ask Jesus if He was the Expected One. In the midst of adverse circumstances, never doubt or wonder if Jesus is the One. James 1:6 says, the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. Believers stand strong in faith, trusting God in all situations.
In Luke 7:22 (NASB1995), Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and report to John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have the gospel preached to them.” (Luke 7:22 NASB1995) Jesus was sent to comfort the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners. He was sent to tell those who mourn that the time of the LORD’s favor has come. (See Isaiah 61:1-2) He is our Redeemer, Lord and Savior and there is no other.
