“It is Written”

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. —Matthew 4:1 (NKJV)

When the devil came to tempt the Lord, three times Jesus responded with what is written in the Scriptures. In Matthew 4:4, He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” In Matthew 4:7, Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the LORD your God.’ ” In Matthew 4:10, Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”

We must know the Word of God, which is the sword of the Spirit (See Ephesians 6:17), and speak it out loud. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:12 NLT)

Now when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time. (Luke 4:13 NKJV) Know that the devil is always prowling around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. So be on the alert. (See 1 Peter 5:8 NASB1995)

Patient Endurance
