He Looks at the Heart

But Yahweh said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks at the heart.” —1 Samuel 16:7 (LSB)

In Samuel 13:14, Samuel told Saul, “Yahweh has sought out for Himself a man after His own heart…” The LORD does not change. (See Malachi 3:6) He still looks at the heart. “As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the real person.”  (Proverbs 27:19 NLT) Have a devoted heart that does not depart from Yahweh, and is always willing to follow His ways. Every man’s way is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs and examines the hearts [of people and their motives]. (Proverbs 21:2 AMP) The perverse in heart are an abomination to the LORD, but the blameless in their walk are His delight. (Proverbs 11:20 NASB1995)

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. —Matthew 12:35 (NKJV)

For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the Law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach statutes and ordinances in Israel. — Ezra 7:10 (NKJV) May we prepare our hearts and set our minds to diligently read and study the Word of God. Then, apply it to our daily lives by actually doing what it says. Great peace have those who love the law of the LORD, and nothing causes them to stumble. (See Psalms 119:165 NKJV) As pressure and stress bear down on you, find joy in His commands. (See Psalms 119:143 NLT) Psalms 78:8 (NKJV) says, its a stubborn and rebellious generation, that did not set its heart aright, and whose spirit was not faithful to God. Blessed and favored by God are those who keep His testimonies, and who [consistently] seek Him and long for Him with all their heart. Rejoice in the Lord always [delight, take pleasure in Him]; again I will say, rejoice! — Philippians 4:4 (AMP) James 1:2-4 (NLT) says: “Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.” Our joy is not to be based on the fluctuating circumstances of our lives. We experience fullness of joy in the Presence of Yahweh and He is always with us. No matter what season of life you are going through, have continual and contagious joy. Let your joy overflow and spill out onto those around you.
