Relentless Love

The LORD hurled a great wind on the sea and there was a great storm on the sea so that the ship was about to break up. Then the sailors became afraid and every man cried to his god, and they threw the cargo which was in the ship into the sea to lighten it for them. But Jonah had gone below into the hold of the ship, lain down and fallen sound asleep. —Jonah 1:4-5 (NASB1995)

In Jonah 1:12, Jonah said to the sailors, “Pick me up and throw me into the sea. Then the sea will become calm for you, for I know that on account of me this great storm has come upon you.” Jonah was willing to die, instead of going to preach to Ninevah and have Yahweh show compassion toward his enemies. Sometimes our disobedience affects others, as well as ourselves.

How many storms have we encountered that were brought about by our own disobedience and hardness of heart? Don’t be like Jonah and get lulled to sleep in the midst of running away from God. Thank Yahweh, that He does not give up on us. He is faithful and forgiving. And His love for us is relentless. God used Jonah’s disobedience, to save the sailors on the ship. Jonah 1:16 says: Then the men feared the LORD greatly, and they offered a sacrifice to the LORD and made vows. Yahweh also put Jonah in position to fulfill his original assignment and the people of Nineveh believed in God and repented. (See Jonah 3:5,10).

Arise & Build

Then I said to them, “You see the bad situation we are in, that Jerusalem is desolate and its gates burned by fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem so that we will no longer be a reproach.” I told them how the hand of my God had been favorable to me and also about the king’s words which he had spoken to me. Rejoice!

Rejoice in the Lord always [delight, take pleasure in Him]; again I will say, rejoice! — Philippians 4:4 (AMP) James 1:2-4 (NLT) says: “Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.” Our joy is not to be based on the fluctuating circumstances of our lives. We experience fullness of joy in the Presence of Yahweh and He is always with us. No matter what season of life you are going through, have continual and contagious joy. Let your joy overflow and spill out onto those around you. Don’t be dejected and sad, for the joy of the LORD is your strength!” (See Nehemiah 8:10 NLT) We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need.
